Pitch Range
Left hand chamber
Plays C5 to C6, in a C major scale, using a 6-hole ocarina fingering arrangement.
Right hand chamber
Plays G5 to G6, in a G major scale, using a 6-hole ocarina fingering arrangement.
This ocarina is designed for playing harmony by simultaneously blowing into both windways, with identical fingerings on each chamber playing an interval of a perfect fifth. The chambers are tuned to match each other, all at a slightly less than medium breath pressure.
Anyone familiar with a 6-hole fingering will already know that 6-hole ocarinas do not offer the level of pitch precision found in a 12-Hole ocarina. Particularly, the B in a C major scale and the F# in a G major scale will run a little sharp.
This is the only harmony ocarina of this type that Song Wei has made. The bull logo does not appear but his signature stamp is found on the back side.
This instrument was stained, allowing the spot mottling of the underlying purple clay to show through, although the mouthpiece area was also painted with acrylic paint. The final finish was a food-safe polyurethane varnish.
Please also note: The ocarina has no neck cord hole, and no neck cord is provided. No fingering chart will be provided. The two small holes on the underside of the ocarina are tuning holes used to match the pitch of the chambers to each other. These holes are not used while playing.
